Dr. Franklin Chang Díaz, inventor del Cohete de Impulso Específico Variable de Magnetoplasma ( VASIMR® , por sus siglas en inglés, U.S. patente 2002), fundó Ad Astra Rocket Company (AARC) en el 2005, luego de haber servido 25 años como astronauta para NASA. AARC se dedica al desarrollo y comercialización de VASIMR y tecnologías relacionadas. Nació el 5 de abril de 1950 en San José, Costa Rica. Hijo de don Ramón A. Chang Morales y doña María Eugenia Díaz. Contrajo matrimonio con Peggy Marguerite Doncaster de Alexandria, Luisiana. - - - - Dr. Chang Díaz, inventor of the Variable Specific Impulse Magnetoplasma Rocket (VASIMR® , U.S. patent 2002) and other advanced propulsion technologies (U.S. patents 1989, 1990), founded the Ad Astra Rocket Company (AARC) in 2005, after 25 years of service as a NASA astronaut.
