Musician/band
Gospel: Over the past decade, VaShawn Mitchell has left his mark on Gospel music as an acclaimed minister of music, songwriter and worship leader. A native of Chicago, he held prominent positions in the music departments of two of the Windy City’s most well-known churches---St. Mark Baptist Church and Bishop Larry D. Trotter’s Sweet Holy Spirit Church---while still a teenager. Since that time, Mitchell has become a recognized songwriter, penning hits for several of Gospel’s most celebrated voices, including Smokie Norful (“Just Can’t Stop”), Vanessa Bell Armstrong (“Help”), and Bishop Paul Morton (“Cry Your Last Tear”). VaShawn is making his major-label debut with the release of Triumphant on EMI Gospel. The project was recorded live at Higher Living Christian Church, the Atlanta-based ministry where Mitchell has been Director of Worship & Arts since 2007.
